Kauai Hiking
Kauai "The Garden Isle," is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands. Kaui is a lush, tropical island that offers stunning landscapes ranging from oceanside cliffs to the largest canyon in the Pacific. Hiking is a great way to explore other islands in Hawaii (Big Island, Maui, or Oahu) as well. Ultimate adventure excursions for your Kauai vacation include the Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast and the Kukui Trail into Waimea Canyon. Part of the spectacular Na Pali Coast (rugged 2000 ft. cliffs traversing 5 valley) can be explored as a day trip. Trekking beyond Hanakapi'ai Beach requires a permits. This is a popular trip and permits are often booked a year in advance. The Kukui Trail is a great way to explore Waimea Canyon, the largest in the pacific. You can easily guide yourself on Kauai trails, especially if you are an experienced hiker. Alternatively, there are guided hawaii hiking tours available. An advantage to taking a guided Kauai hiking tour is that they can be educational... and you can support the local economy at the same time. Please note that the Hawaii Sierra Club advises women not to hike or camp alone on Kauai.
