Camping is a great way to see Hawaii (Big Island, Kauai, Maui or Oahu), especially if you want to visit Hawaii on a budget. Some camping sites have amenities while others are more primitive. Cabins are also available at some sites if you don't want to sleep in a tent the entire time.

You'll need to get the proper camping permits, for free or a nominal fee. Some sites are in very high demand, so you will need to plan ahead. (Reservations can be made up to a year in advance.)

The Hawaii camping sites only have cold water. For a hot shower, you could try one of those sunshowers. Alternatively, you might want to stay at a hotel some nights.
